State Overview and Advice

In order to register a vehicle in Arizona, you need an Arizona driver's license, an Arizona address, and proof that you reside there.

If you do not want to obtain residency in the United States, we recommend starting your visit in another state, or using visitor.us' services to register a vehicle that you buy in Arizona.

The Registration Process

The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) manages vehicle registrations in Arizona.

Whether you buy your vehicle from a dealer or from a private party, if you plan to register it in Arizona, you must bring the required items (below) to an ADOT service center.

For vehicles being registered in Arizona, Arizona sales taxes are payable to the dealer upon sale, or ADOT upon registration (if purchased from a private party).

Thirty-day General Use Permits for vehicles previously registered in Arizona are available on the ADOT website.
