Has a road trip on another continent ever made its way onto your bucket list? For some, it might be Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi on motorbikes. For others, it might be laps on the Nurburgring. For Luke, from Cornwall in the UK, it was driving a classic Volkswagen Beetle through the American Southwest.
In the autumn of 2019, Luke’s plans began to crystalize. He found a cherry 1963 Bug for sale on (the popular American classified site) Craigslist, he mapped out his route, and he organized his flights. But Luke struggled with a critical piece of the puzzle:
The one bit that was eluding me, the one bit that I really couldn’t get into, was how to register this car so that I could legally drive it as a non-US citizen.
That’s where visitor.us stepped in to help. We were able to register and insure Luke’s Beetle before he arrived in the US. Luke simply picked up his car from the seller and hit the road.
What happened to the Bug at the end of Luke’s road trip? He shipped it back to Cornwall, where he drives it today.
Luke explains this much better than we could. Watch this video and learn how visitor.us helped Luke scratch this road trip off his bucket list:

Buying, registering, and insuring a vehicle in America is not at all straightforward if you don't live here or have just moved. That's why we're putting together this series, called Fundamentals of Buying a Car in America, to help de-mystify the subject. This article focuses on the fundamental of ownership transfer.
